1- Eman Al-AbdulSalam
Research Aims:
Common variants of three different genes (IL13, MS4A2 and IL4R) will be assayed in the asthmatic Saudi population to fulfill the following objectives:
1. To determine the common variants in the asthmatic Saudis.
2. To determine allele frequencies of each variant in both asthmatic and normal Saudi individuals.
3. To compare the frequency of the alleles in the asthmatic Saudis with that in other populations.
4. To identify genetic markers for asthma in the Saudi population.
5. To develop and optimize a high throughput assay for screening for known mutations in the Saudis using NanoChip ®400 system.
2- Arwa Khayat
Research Aims:
Common variants in three different genes (IL-4, ADAM33 and ORMDL3) will be assay in the asthmatic Saudi childhood to fulfill these objectives:
1. Determine the common variants in asthmatic Saudis childhood.
2.Determine the various allele frequencies of these genes in both asthmatic and normal Saudi childhood
via SSCP, RFLP or ARMS experiments.
3. Compare the frequency of the alleles in the asthmatic Saudis childhood with that in other populations.
4. Perform statistical to establish whether any of these SNPs is associated with asthma.
3- Nouf Al-Afalek
Research Aims:
1. To study oxidative DNA damage in asthma patient's serum by enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA).
2. Correlating oxidative DNA damage to oxidative stress in asthmatic patients.
3. Detecting the levels of antioxidants: vitamin C and vitamin E in these patients.
