Asthma |
Asthma is a serious public health problem throughout the world, with an estimated 300 million affected individuals. Local studies indicated that two million Saudi citizens are suffering from asthma which represent up to 20% of the Saudi population.
Despite this huge burden and advanced knowledge on asthma there are still many questions which remain unanswered especially in the Arab peninsula.
To this end, King Saud University as a leading university in the region has taken the initiative to start a National program dedicated for asthma research, training and education.
The major strength of this program is the strong collaboration & coordination among several specialties and institutions, in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of asthma in the Saudi Arabia. This hopefully will provide a valuable data on preventive measures and more effective treatment plans for asthma
We aim to study asthma and related diseases in Saudi Arabia in a comprehensive manner including epidemiological, clinical and cutting edge basic science research. As a fundamental objective of our program, we will promote teaching and education in asthma for health care providers as well as supporting postgraduate degrees in the basic sciences and translational research related to asthma.
Our ultimate goal is to establish a center of excellence in asthma research which is highly respected in the international scientific community and capable of providing word class reputation in asthma research, education, and training and community services.
